Navigation Menu

riverwalk main menu

Salmon Guild, Trout Guild

Participants are divided into 2 "guilds": the Trout Guild for younger students, and the Salmon Guild for older students. Click the name of the guild to go to that guild's homepage.

Backpack

Click here for an explanation of the Backpack.

Tours

View and discuss other participants' tours. If you click "Tours" from the Workgroup screen, you can work on your own tours. (See "Workgroups" below.) (The tour section is currently under construction.)

Posts

Displays recent postings in the guild. If you click a date on the calendar to the right, a list of messages posted on that day will appear. This is a good place to check for new activity each time you log in.

Activities

Displays a list of activities -- generally messages and small projects posted by the mentors and developers.

Workgroups

Tour creation occurs in workgroups. A workgroup can be any combination of participants, from a small group of students to an entire class to several classes working together. The mentors create workgroups based on requests from the participants.

To enter Workgroup mode, from your guild's main page click the workgroup's name underneath the calendar. Discussions in Workgroup mode are visible only to other members of the workgroup and the mentors.

Writing and reading discussion postings

Most pages in RiverWalk have discussion areas attached to them. A discussion area has two parts:
1. A discussion thread (list of postings) 2. A form for submitting your own posting.

If you click the title of a message in the discussion thread, the text of that message will be displayed at the top of the screen.

Depending on what post you are viewing, the words "respond to..." may be displayed next to a pulldown menu. If you choose to respond to "this discussion," your posting will appear at the bottom of the thread. If you choose "this post," your message will appear underneath the posting that is currently displayed.

Note: If you know HTML, many HTML tags will work in discussion messages.
